Richmond County District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. and NYPD Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly announced on April 24, 2013, a new, joint venture aimed at ridding Staten Island neighborhoods of "community guns," more commonly known as "stash guns."

At a press conference in his office, DA Donovan discusses the prevalence of so-called “community guns” – firearms shared by a group of criminals and stashed in public places. To his left is State Senator Marty Golden, who authored legislation to crack down on community gun use; to his right are State Senator Andrew Lanza and State Assemblywoman Nicole Malliatokis, who will sponsor the bill in their respective houses.
