Richmond County District Attorney Michael E. McMahon today announced that he has called on the City of New York to expand the ShotSpotter system on Staten Island in order to enhance law enforcement’s ability to combat gun violence and to improve public safety throughout the borough. With news that the ShotSpotter system will be coming to the 120th Police Precinct in the immediate future, D.A. McMahon has requested for a 50% increase in the coverage area. This increase will help to bolster the NYPD’s ability to detect gunfire and respond to shootings in critical areas where gun violence persists on Staten Island, particularly in the 121st Precinct. D.A. McMahon formally advocated for this necessary increase in a letter sent to Mayor Bill de Blasio earlier this month.
