***Encourages Safety on Halloween for Island’s Kids***

STATEN ISLAND, NY – With Halloween just a few short weeks away, Richmond County District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. has funded the purchase of 5,000 “Trick or Treat” bags to be distributed to the youth of Staten Island. Approximately 450 of the bags will be available at each of the 11 open branches of the New York Public Library located on Staten Island.

“I hope that parents and their children will take advantage of these wonderful bags and have as much fun as I did ‘Trick or Treating’ as a child,” stated the District Attorney. “Hopefully all Islanders can take part in some good, clean fun and enjoy a scary, but safe Halloween.”

District Attorney Donovan was joined in making the announcement at the St. George Library Center by Robert Bellinger, the New York Public Library’s Associate Director of Staten Island Branches.

“The Library is happy to join District Attorney Donovan in wishing all of Staten Island’sDistrict Attorney Daniel M. “Hopefully this will also further encourage kids and their parents to take advantage of some of the wonderful offering the public libraries have here on Staten Island,” added District Attorney Donovan. “I cannot thank the people of the New York Public Library enough for agreeing to distribute these bags to their patrons.”

The highly visible bags are reflective and include a list of safety tips that the District Attorney hopes Island parents will encourage their children to follow:

• Let your parents inspect all treats before you eat them.
• Wear white or reflective clothing.
• Watch for cars.
• Stay away from unfamiliar neighborhoods.

The bags will be available at each of the borough’s public libraries starting on Wednesday, October 13th. For a list of branches and library hours, please consult the NYPL’s website at www.nypl.org or call 718-442-8562.
