Neal S. Cohen Sworn-In as Staten Island’s Newest Prosecutor

***Emory Law Grad, 30, Newest Addition to Criminal Court Bureau***


STATEN ISLAND, NY- In the Office of the Richmond County District Attorney, a ceremony was held to formally swear-in Neal S. Cohen, 30, to his position as Richmond County Assistant District Attorney (ADA). The oath was administered by District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. and witnessed by Richmond County Clerk Stephen J. Fiala. He is the eighth Criminal Court assistant to join the office under District Attorney Donovan’s administration.

“I am honored to welcome Neal to the already talented team of attorneys working in my office’s Criminal Court Bureau,” stated District Attorney Donovan. “Neal’s combination of academic and professional achievements will makes him a true asset to the people of Staten Island.”

Cohen, a resident of the East Side of Manhattan, is a native of Boca Raton, Florida and May 2003 graduate of the Emory University School of Law and has been admitted to the bar in the State of New York. He attended Emory as a Robert W. Woodruff Fellow, a competitive full-tuition scholarship and was awarded the Judge John E. Lewis Award for Public Service and the Dean’s Award for Service to the Community. Cohen also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Swarthmore College in June 1996. He is fluent in the Spanish language.

"I am honored to have this unique opportunity to serve the people of Staten Island as an assistant district attorney,” stated ADA Cohen. “I look forward to joining District Attorney Donovan and his dedicated team in their important work of preserving law and order for the people of Staten Island."

Cohen is joining the Office of the District Attorney from the law firm of King & Spalding LLP where he had served as an associate since August 2003. While at King & Spaulding, he performed advisory work on corporate law issues and also independent pro-bono work. Prior to joining the firm Cohen served as the President of the Emory Public Interest Committee, a law clerk at the Southern Center for Human Rights and the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.


Neal S. Cohen will be paid $42,500 in his position.
