D.A. Donovan Announces Arrest
of Victim's Half-Brother in August Murder of 18 Year-Old S.I. Woman

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Richmond County District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan,
Jr. today announced the arrest of Raviv Gabbay (DOB: 7/19/1978), of
East 12th Street, Brooklyn, for the murder of his half-sister, Aliza
Parsy, 18, of Staten Island on August 10, 2005.

Gabbay, was placed under arrest Monday evening on charges of 2nd degree
Murder, and Burglary in the 1st and 2nd degrees, within the confines
of the 122nd Pct. on Staten Island and while in custody made a statement
that implicated himself in the death of his half-sister within her home
on Rupert Avenue in the Sea View section of the borough. The murder
followed Gabbay entering the home shared by the victim and her mother,
who is also the defendant’s mother.
District Attorney Donovan stated, “I am grateful to the men and
women of my office, the NYPD and the Medical Examiner’s office
for their dedication to an exhaustive investigation and seeing an arrest
made in the brutal ending of a young life, so full of promise. The people
of this community can rest a little bit easier knowing that the man
who we believe perpetrated this crime has been taken into custody and
will now face prosecution.” 
The investigation of the case was conducted by Assistant District Attorney
Wanda DeOliveira, Deputy Chief of the District Attorney’s Sex
Crimes/Special Victims Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Duncan
Brown, who are prosecuting the case under the supervision of Assistant
District Attorney Yolanda L. Rudich, Bureau Chief.
They were assisted in their investigation by Assistant District Attorneys
Thomas Reilly and David Frey, of the Computer Crimes Unit, Detective
Investigator Robert Keating, and Maria Scarna, Domestic Violence Case
Coordinator and Andrew Scudera, Director of Video and Photography.
From the NYPD, the investigation was conducted by Lt. Richie Lamb and
Det. Michael Kenny of the 122 Precinct, Det. Sgt. Frances “Buddy”
Murname, Det. Thomas Byrnes of the Major Case Unit, Det. James McCafferty
of the Brooklyn South Homicide Unit, Det. Pete Cassidy and Det. Chris
Wachholtz of the Computer Crime Squad, as well as personnel from the
NYPD’s Auto Crime Division. The investigation was also assisted
by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s DNA Unit.
The defendant will be arraigned this afternoon, on murder and related
charges, before Judge Alan J. Meyer at Richmond County Criminal Court,
67 Targee Street. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in
prison if convicted of the charge of Murder in the 2nd degree.
