D.A. Donovan Announces 110-Count Indictment of Federal Parks Employee for Multiple Rapes of S.I. Teen & Related Charges
Angel Nazario,60, Charged with 2nd Degree Rape and Other Charges for Sexual Assault of Teen Hired to Clean His Home; Coerced Victim into Sex Acts With Men at Island Motel


     STATEN ISLAND, NY - Richmond County District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. today announced the filing of a Grand Jury indictment against Angel Nazario, (DOB: 8/26/1945) of New York Avenue, Staten Island on multiple charges; including 93 counts of Rape in the 2nd Degree (Class D felony) and 6 counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the 2nd Degree (Class D felony), as well as multiple misdemeanor counts of Sexual Misconduct and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The defendant is an employee of the United States Parks Service, stationed at Fort Wadsworth of the Gateway National Recreation Area, where he also resides.

     Nazario is alleged to have engaged in sexual intercourse on a near-weekly basis in his Fort Wadsworth apartment with a 13 year old Port Richmond resident beginning on approximately September 4, 2004 and continuing each Saturday through June 3, 2006. In addition, in the period between October 2, 2004 and May 27, 2006, the defendant is alleged to have arranged for the girl to engage in sex acts with approximately 10 other men, in his presence, within the Victory Motor Inn, Staten Island.
It is alleged that defendant, who was an acquaintance of the victim’s mother, a Mexican immigrant, engaged in the sex acts with the teen while the mother believed she was hired to clean the defendant’s apartment.

     The defendant was arrested on July 5, 2006 and was arraigned in Staten Island Criminal Court the following day before Judge Alan J. Meyer. He was ordered held without bail.

     The defendant will be arraigned on the Grand Jury indictment on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Richmond County State Supreme Court, St. George, before Judge Leonard P. Rienzi. The top charges, Rape in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Sexual Act in the 2nd Degree, carry a top penalty of up to 7 years in prison for each count.

     The is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Wanda DeOliveira, Deputy Chief of the District Attorney’s Sex Crimes/Special Victims Bureau, and ADA Lauren-Brooke Eisen, who are prosecuting the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Yolanda L. Rudich, Bureau Chief. They are assisted by ADA Carol Villegas of the Supreme Court Bureau. The defendant is represented by Richard Kopacz, Esq.

     The public is reminded that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
