Filed in January ‘07 Fatal “Park & Ride” Shooting STATEN ISLAND, NY - Richmond County District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. today announced that John Galtieri, 61, of Punta Gorda, Florida has been indicted by a Richmond County Grand Jury on charges related to the January 30, 2007 fatal shooting of his ex-wife, Jeanne Kane, 58, of Staten Island, at a Park & Ride location off of the West Shore Expressway. Galtieri has been indicted on felony charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and one count of Stalking in the 1st Degree. He has also been charged with the misdemeanors of Stalking in the 4th Degree, three counts of unlawful possession of pistol or revolver ammunition and one count of unlawful possession of rifle or shotgun ammunition. The top count of the indictment, Murder in the 2nd Degree, carries a top penalty of 25 years to life in prison. John Galtieri was apprehended by South Carolina authorities, of the Colleton County Sheriff’s Department, on January 31, 2007, where he remains in custody. District Attorney Donovan stated, “My office has submitted a Governor’s Warrant to the office of Governor Eliot Spitzer which will be used to facilitate Mr. Galtieri’s transfer to New York. At this time, that warrant is pending and Mr. Galtieri’s return date to face these charges remains uncertain. Mr. Galtieri will next appear before authorities in South Carolina on February 26th.” The case against Galtieri is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Silberlight of the Supreme Court Bureau; under the supervision of Paul A. Capofari, Chief of the Supreme Court Bureau. The public is reminded that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. -end-
