20 Years in Prison for Attempted Rape, Robbery & Burglary in Knife-point
Home Invasion
*** Michael Delgado, 26, Sentenced to 20
Years in Prison for 2005 Attack on Port Richmond Woman ***
STATEN ISLAND, NY –
Richmond County District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. today announced
that Michael Delgado (DOB: 10/21/1980) of Nicholas Avenue, has been
sentenced to 20 years in prison following his March 2007 conviction
at trial on charges of Robbery and Burglary in the 1st Degree, both
Class B felonies, and Attempted Rape in the 1st Degree, a Class C felony.
The defendant, who has two prior felony convictions, was sentenced by
Justice Stephen Rooney in State Supreme Court.
Delgado was sentenced for
an incident which occurred in the early morning of May 10, 2005 in which
he robbed and attempted to rape a mother of four at knifepoint. Delgado
robbed the woman of $2,000 and also unbuckled his pants and ordered
the victim to remove her nightgown, while her children were asleep in
another room. When he laid the knife on her bed, she grabbed it and
chased him out of the apartment. Delgado was arrested on May 27, 2005
for the crime. His previous trial, in 2005, ended in a hung jury.
District Attorney Donovan
stated, “Michael Delgado is a career criminal who terrorized an
innocent family, leading to his third felony conviction before he has
even turned 27 years old. Thanks to dedicated prosecutors and police,
as well as a courageous victim, he will no longer be free to terrorize
our community.”
The case against Michael
Delgado was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Yolanda L. Rudich,
Chief of the Sex Crimes/Special Victims Bureau, and Assistant District
Attorney Michael Drews of the Supreme Court Bureau. The defendant was
represented at his sentencing by Eugene Lamb, Esq.
